The AMUtech Institute offers a PhD program dedicated to advanced materials and nanotechnologies. This PhD program, focusing on nanomaterials, is designed for a broad audience. It has been designed to be easily assimilated by physicists, chemists and engineers, whatever their initial scientific training (no specific prerequisites are necessary).
Target audience
Training courses are mainly open to PhD students, but master's students, engineers and researchers are also welcome.
Target skills
Understanding nanomaterials: students should be able to grasp the basic concepts that give nanomaterials and nanostructured materials their new properties.
Part 2:
Nanofabrication and nano-engineering
The second part of the course is devoted to nanomaterial manufacturing. It is divided into two sub-sections.
I/ Nanofabrication methods (8h)
The first sub-section covers nanofabrication methods. The courses are closely associated with the facilities available on the Aix Marseille Luminy and St Jérôme campuses. The methods used by physicists and chemists are described (bottom-up and top-down approaches, soft and electrochemical methods).
The courses
I.1/ Bottom-up methods (MBE, CVD, ALD) : Luc FAVRE - Thursday November 13, 2025, room 2 Étoile Nord (ex EGIM) VP, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
I.2/ Top-down methods (lithography, RIE): Igor OZEROV - Thursday, November 20, 2025, room 2 Étoile Nord (ex EGIM) VP, 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm
I.3/ Soft chemistry methods (Supramol, Sol gel, Colloids) : Éric BESSON - Wednesday November 26, 2025, salle 2 Étoile Nord (ex EGIM) VP, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
I.4/ Electrochemical methods (Elaboration of coatings and nanostructures) : Luca PASQUINI - Thursday November 27, 2025, room 2 Étoile Nord (ex EGIM) VP, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
II/ Nanoengineering and Integration (7h)
The second sub-section focuses more on an introduction to the use of technology platforms in close connection with device manufacturing. Specific equipment is made available to students.
The courses
II.1/ Integrating functions into devices: Remi VAUCHE - Thursday December 4, 2025, room 1 Étoile Nord (ex EGIM) VP, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
II.2/ TP Lithography: Igor OZEROV - Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Planète platform at Luminy, from 09:00 to 12:00
II.3/ Optical spectroscopy at the nanoscale: Jérôme WENGER - Thursday December 18, 2025, room 1 Étoile Nord (ex EGIM) VP, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
